Library Cards
Welcome to the Library! We are thrilled you've come to visit us.
Library cards are free to Uintah County residents who are at least 18 years old, complete an application either in person or online, and present the following items at the Library:
1. a photo ID, such as a Utah driver’s license or Utah ID card or driving privilege card with current address listed OR Current government or school-issued picture ID
2. one of the following items to verify current address:
- Current lease agreement
- Current utility or phone bill
- Current mortgage papers or property tax notice
- Current check pay stub
- Current government-issued correspondence
- Current hospital/doctor bill or medical enrollment
Parents may receive library cards for their children.
Things to Know:
- Library Cards are non-transferable.
- New library card holders are limited to 15 items checked out at a time during the first four months of opening an account.
- Patrons may check out 24 items per library card at a time, plus eBooks, eAudioBooks, & streamed videos available through our online resources.
- Library cards may be used at the Uintah County Library in Vernal, Duchesne County Library branches in Roosevelt and Duchesne, and Wasatch County Library in Heber.
- Lost/stolen library cards and changes of address must be reported immediately.
- Library cards expire every 2 years. They are renewed at no charge when patrons confirm or update the information on their accounts.
Borrowing Items
- The loan period is 21 days for most items.
- Interlibrary loans, new movies, Duchesne items, and online materials may have alternate loan periods.
- Automatic renewals are enabled by default. Items will be renewed on the due date up to two (2) times if not returned.
- Items on hold may not be renewed and must be returned to the library by the original due date.
- You can search the online catalog and place your own holds at the Library and at home through our online catalog.
Fines and Fees
- The Library is fine-free as of May 2019. Daily late fees will not apply.
- Any items more than 45 days overdue will be considered Long Overdue (Lost) and accounts will be charged the full price of the item until it is returned.
- A $5 processing fee will be charged in addition to replacement prices for lost items and items damaged beyond repair.
Holds and Interlibrary Loans
- If a book or other item is checked out, we can reserve it for you. If the item you'd like is at another branch, we can reserve it and have in transferred for you. Please ask at the Reference Desk or Contact Us for assistance.
- We will call, email, and/or text you according to your notification settings when holds are available.
- Holds are kept at the front desk for seven business days before they are cancelled.
- To cancel a hold, please contact the Library.
- If neither the Uintah County or Duchesne County Libraries own a particular item, we may be able to borrow it for you from another library outside our consortium through our Interlibrary Loan system. We cannot request DVDs through this system. Please ask at the Reference Desk or Contact Us for assistance.
Returning Materials
- Materials may be returned through the Book Return Slot to the right of the Circulation Desk. These items will be checked in automatically.
- Any materials too large to fit through the slot may be returned to the Circulation Desk to be checked in manually.
- The drive-up book drop is located on the north side of the building and may be accessed at any time. These items will not be checked in automatically and may take some time to be processed depending on staffing.
eBooks
The Library’s eBooks and eAudiobooks can be downloaded to your tablet, smartphone, or computer. Visit our E-Resources page for more information and instructions. Please stop by the Reference Desk or Contact Us with any questions.
Lost or Damaged Library Materials
- If an item is reported lost, the patron will be charged the cost of the item, plus a $5 processing fee. The cost of lost material will be determined by the cost listed in the owning Library’s database or by the price charged by the Library’s primary collection development service.
- Once payment is made for a lost item, the item belongs to the patron. If a lost item is found, a refund will not be given and the patron may keep the item.
- If an item is judged by a department supervisor to be damaged beyond repair and unsuitable for further circulation, the patron shall be charged the price of the item as listed in the owning Library’s database or by the Library’s primary collection development service, plus the $5 processing fee.
- Replacement items are accepted for both lost and damaged items as long as the replacement is in acceptable condition. A $5 processing fee will be charged.
